Because we all live far and wide if anyone has heard of any courses or workshops in your location that you think might be of benefit to others then please tell all here!!!
For those of you who live locally to me in West Sussex, England there a 6-8 week course which is run by the Help Programme. It is for parents/carers who have recently had a new diagnosis and need to understand what that means to them. It offers advice, support, guidance ans you can socialise and make some friends along the way.
I went on this 2 years ago when we had a vague diagnosis of "Social Communicational Disorder upon the Autistic Spectrum" what did that mean??????????
It was through this course that I found out about all the benefits like Disability Allowance and Carers Allowance we were entitiled to as a family which has helped us a lot. If you want to know more then pls email me and I can post you the link.

John and I have both attended Makaton workshops (Sam does not speak, he uses Makaton signs and PEC's), these can be arranged through your speech and language therapist if required.
We have also been offered the National Autistic Society EarlyBird Programe, but have not been able to access this yet due to Sam's health needs. It is a 3 month programme aimed at preschool children with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum. This brings parents together for group sessions during the day, and also involves each family being visited in their own home. The programme helps parents to understand their child's autism, develop their child's communication and apply practical strategies to manage their child' behaviour.

Hi Julie
Yes, one of my friends is going on this course - it is such a shame they do not have these continued once children are in school as a lot of diagnosis are given after they have started education!!
A lot more helps needs to be at hand for families who have children in school - it seems to end once they are in school.

Hi Jean
Possibly try the Autistic Society in your daughter's area, you should be able to find that on the web. Apart from the 2 main Tourettes websites - one of which is in Scotland - they actually do run workshops and days out for the siblings/holidays.
A bit far for me though to drive up to Scotland!!!
It is a bit like looking for gold dust I am afraid!!!

Hi there
I jus wanted to say that for Kiran we prepared a speech on TS for him to present to his class and the other class. As a result of this his whole year understands how TS affects him. He has also done this speech to year 4 class and this time it was filmed. The purpose of filming was to show the video to all the staff in a staff meeting so that any teacher would know about Kiran and simply ignore him when he is ticcing. I can send you his props if you wish. It was done in light humour and he held the classes attention really well. At times when tics are bad Kiran leaves the room and goes and visits welfare andsimply has a drink of water and a 5-10 min chat with her andd then returns to class and this seems to help him.

Hi Sangeeta
Very brave of Kiran to do the class talk. Well done Kiran!!!
Its a really good idea and something I would certainly consider should the need arise.

Yes Sangeeta - Kiran is very brave and sould be very proud of himself and I am sure you are as well!!! Sam did something similar but to his Year 3 friends a year ago and he took objects in that he needs when he goes to bed - relaxing things - and his teacher helped him talk about his tics. Of course the more he talked about it the more the tics came out and so the chilren were able to see for themselves what he meant!!
